In this refreshing collection, one of our best writers on desert places, Gary Paul Nabhan, challenges traditional notions of the desert. Beautiful, reflective, and at times humorous, Nabhan’s extended essay also called “The Nature of Desert Nature” reveals the complexity of what a desert is and can be. He passionately writes about what it is like to visit a desert and what living in a desert looks like when viewed through a new frame, turning age-old notions of the desert on their heads.
Nabhan invites a prism of voices—friends, colleagues, and advisors from his more than four decades of study of deserts—to bring their own perspectives. Scientists, artists, desert contemplatives, poets, and writers bring the desert into view and investigate why these places compel us to walk through their sands and beneath their cacti and acacia. We observe the spines and spears, stings and songs of the desert anew. Unexpected. Surprising. Enchanting. Like the desert itself, each essay offers renewed vocabulary and thoughtful perceptions.
The desert inspires wonder. Attending to history, culture, science, and spirit, The Nature of Desert Nature celebrates the bounty and the significance of desert places. — Book promo @ goodreads.com

I went to my dentist in Naco, MX on Monday and got a cleaning and checkup. This was after a stop at the Bisbee Breakfast Club. I had breakfast at The Morning Cafe on Saturday when I went grocery shopping and did my laundry in South Bisbee. The morning Cafe is still charging their higher prices that they attribute to the increased cost of eggs. Those cost have come down but their prices have not. The Bisbee Breakfast Club did not raise their prices at that time.
I had found a place in Warren-Bisbee that said they would do an oil change when i sent them an email. I stopped and asked if I needed an appointment and was told no. On my way out I looked at their service bays and they did not look like they were tall enough for Desperado. I went back inside and pointed out to Desperado and asked again if they could do an oil change. I was then told no they couldn’t. Near Safeway in South Bisbee I saw a tire and service shop with a toll bay and stopped to see if they would change the oil. I’ll go back of Friday to get it done.
I always wondered about the practical difficulty of working on motorhomes. To some extent, it kept me from ever owning one. But most people get necessary work done on their motorhomes, eventually.
The key word there is – eventually. If you are physically able and have the required skills to do the work yourself a motor home is no more of upkeep burden than a sticks and bricks. Finding someone to do it for you can be a challage for both.
My one-time attempt at going to a dentist in Naco was not confidence-building. I guess I chose wrong. It would be helpful if you would mention your dentist’s name.
