Missive #815

Parisian teenager Lou has an IQ of 160, OCD tendencies, and a mother who has suffered from depression for years. But Lou is about to change her life—and that of her parents—all because of a school project about homeless teens. Whilst doing research, Lou meets No, a teenage girl living on the streets. This book was first published in France in 2007 and was translated by George Miller for its 2010 English release by Bloomsbury. This was de Vigan’s first novel to be translated into English, there are a few more that I will try to find and read when time permits. As their friendship grows, Lou bravely asks her parents if No can live with them, and is astonished when they agree. No’s presence forces Lou’s family to come to terms with a secret tragedy. But can this shaky, newfound family continue to live together when No’s own past comes back to haunt her?

Winner of the prestigious Booksellers’ Prize in France, No and Me is a timely and thought-provoking novel about homelessness that has far-reaching appeal. — Book promo @ goodreads.com

Nothing very exciting other than Desperado’s fresh water tank is leaking once again. This was ‘fixed’ by the shop in Elephant Butte about a year ago with the understanding that the fix might not last. Well it has lasted for as long as it is going to. I’ll see if I can get the tank replaced during my winter stay at Goldminers RV Park. The problem there is finding a shop that can do it, those that I have used in the Sierra Vista area are off my list. There is a mobile repair guy that I have seen come to the park a few times that I may give a try or there is a RV dealer and repair in north Whetstone that I have not tried before. Or than that it is see if I can find a shop in Tucson.

Started raining around 200 this morning but was not when I let Erik out at 600 although there was heavy cloud cover and the forecast of rain during the hours of 700 & 800. That is the time we usually do our walk so I think I’ll cancel today.

Diesel fuel supplies from Russia could benefit consumers in the United States, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on Sunday.”If Russia can bring additional diesel to the market and export it, it would benefit American consumers,” Wright told CNN. This is gas-lighting at its finest.
The United States exports approximately 48.7 million barrels of diesel per month. The [Russian] agreement, announced via a phone call, stipulates that Russia will supply 300,000 metric tons [2.238 million barrels] of diesel immediately, followed by 500,000 tons [3.73 million barrels] in November and 1 million tons per month [7.46 million barrels] thereafter,… experts note the total is equivalent to only about 10 days of U.S. domestic demand or slightly more than one day of global demand, making it unlikely to significantly lower fuel prices at the pump.
