Richard Sharpe, the former private in His Majesty’s army who now commands a company of riflemen, finds himself fighting his old enemies, the French, in 1811.
Sharpe has been sent by Wellington on a mission to Cadiz, now the capital of Spain, to rescue the British ambassador — who happens to be Wellington’s brother — from a spot of undiplomatic trouble. The city has been blockaded by the French but is supported by the British from the sea. It contains a rare mix of pro- and anti-British citizens, diplomats, courtiers, adventurers, and spies. This morning was another trip into Reserve with breakfast at Ella’s which was open this morning at the time that they claimed to be. After breakfast I went to Jake’s and got groceries then had an hour wait for the post office to open. There I picked up the package that I had conflicting tracking numbers for and was not sure that the package was there. It was and I got the socks that I had ordered, these are from Darn Tough from a family owned company in Vermont which I hope are better than the last SmartWool ones that I ordered from someone. The SmartWool had far too much synthetic fiber included to suit me.
It looked like rain was coming this morning but I got only a few sprinkles on the windshield while driving back from Reserve. I hope I can get in a walk tomorrow. The 10 day forecast is for rain every day except next Wednesday.
