Missive #519

1812 to the Civil War”” has the stirring drama of a good historical novel. He ignores minor trivia, stresses key events and personalities. There are fascinatingly detailed portraits of such figures as the choleric Jackson, the treacherous Santa Ana, the moody Lincoln. And there are firm action accounts of the Battle of New Orleans, the Alamo and the Mexican-American War. Historians may well quibble since the book is definitely a popularization but Wellman seems to have presented his material accurately as well as accessibly with the general reader in mind. The book is a good addition to the Mainstreams of America series which has had Dos Passos, Catton, Forester and Irving Stone as contributors. — Kirkus Reviews

I am having difficulty getting Desperado’s engine and A/C replaced. The company that the Reserve garage was planning on buying the replacement engine from wanted an outrageous shipping fee to return the old engine ‘core’. The garage is looking for alternatives. I thought I had a RV repair shop in Silver City that would replace the A/C but they seemed to quit ‘talking’ to me. The last email received was 17 June a week ago tomorrow.

Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks would be far greater and a lot easier.

I think president Trump is letting his alligator mouth overload his hummingbird ass. Calling Iran the bully of the Middle East is certainly a pot calling the kettle black. There was no reason for the United States to attack the nuclear enrichment facilities. Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, told lawmakers that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon but Trump said she was wrong. So he attacks!

Trump’s understanding of peace seems to be surrender to whatever the United States says. This is not going to work with Iran since it has Russia, Chaina, BRICS+ and most of the Global South at their back. I think it was a very poor decision and Trump has hurt his MAGA position badly.

The good News is coming from the International Atomic Energy Agency: no increase in radiation levels has been reported at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan the three enrichment locations that were bombed. Also from Iran’s Center for the National Nuclear Safety System: confirmed the attack, but said that emergency inspections at the affected facilities have found no signs of radioactive contamination or leaks. That does not lead me to believe that the facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.

    1. I got an email this afternoon saying that an engine had been ordered. The A/C is still a no go. I can not find anyone within 150 miles that will agree to replace the dead one. Most of the contacts simply quit communicating when I tell them what I want or never reply. My new fan is working well but I still need A/C.
