“It was a deadly mistake. Joseph Malik, editor of a radical magazine, had snooped into rumors about an ancient secret society that was still alive and kicking. Now his offices have been bombed, he’s missing, and the case has landed in the lap of a tough, cynical, streetwise New York detective. Saul Goodman knows he’s stumbled onto something big – but even he can’t guess how far into the pinnacles of power this conspiracy of evil has penetrated.
Filled with sex and violence – in and out of time and space – the three books of The Illuminatus! Trilogy are only partly works of the imagination. They tackle all the cover-ups of our time — from who really shot the Kennedys to why there’s a pyramid on a one-dollar bill — and suggest a mind-blowing truth.” — Book promo @ goodreads.com
The Eye Of The Pyramid is the first book in the trilogy. It is also a difficult book to read with the ‘in and out of time and space’. The only thing that has kept my interest is the satire. Such as this quote where a character in the book is writing a book review that certainly could be applied to this book.
It’s a dreadfully long monster of a book,” Wildeblood says pettishly, “and I certainly won’t have time to read it, but I’m giving it a thorough skimming. The authors are utterly incompetent—no sense of style or structure at all. It starts out as a detective story, switches to science-fiction, then goes off into the supernatural, and is full of the most detailed information of dozens of ghastly boring subjects. And the time sequence is all out of order in a has the most raunchy sex scenes, thrown in just to make it sell, I’m sure, and the authors—whom I’ve never heard of— have the supreme bad taste to introduce real political figures into this mishmash and pretend to be exposing a real conspiracy. You can be sure I won’t waste time reading such rubbish, but I’ll have a perfectly devastating review ready for you by tomorrow noon.”
“Well, we don’t expect you to read every book you review,” Peter says mollifyingly, “just so long as you can be entertaining.
I went to Benson again last Wednesday. I didn’t need to go there for my Samsung Galaxy since the computer guy had not sent me an email saying that it was unlocked or that it was a brick. I assumed that it was a brick and went there to get groceries and to tell him that the Samsung was his unlocked or not. While there I also had breakfast again at the Horseshoe Cafe which is a little expensive but every where has become expensive. I also went to Wal*Mart to get some Hoppe’s No. 9 which would not have been available at the Safeway in Willcox, my alternative for a shopping trip. I have ordered a replacement for the Samsung that I hope gets delivered to the Goldminers RV Park before I leave. I’ll have more to say about it after I get it.
“Life is hard; it’s even harder when you’re stupid” — Misattributed to John Wayne
Per Snopes.com the line comes from the book The Friends of Eddie Coyle. That does not make it less true even if John Wayne didn’t say it.
