George MacDonald Fraser—beloved for his series of Flashman historical novels—offers an action-packed memoir of his experiences in Burma during World War II. Fraser was only 19 when he arrived there in the war’s final year,
We had some Washington-Oregon coast weather here this past Sunday and Monday. I got somewhat wet Sunday morning when we were doing our walk and then a little wetter when out for breakfast and grocery shopping. It would have been worse if I had been out there later in the morning when it rained even harder. A total of 0.30″ for the day with it becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Then Monday morning we had a few sprinkles, drizzle and fog while on our walk but that became a real rain later in the day with a total of 0.40″ for the day. Mostly overcast on Tuesday so we were able to do our two walks but then more rain starting around 16:00. The desert is going to be abloom this Spring.
I have had very poor Verizon internet speeds since Saturday. When I did speed checks I’m seeing 0.03-0.05 mbps downloads and uploads in the 2-3 mbps range. Verizon claim all their system are working fine although I find there are people in Yuma that have also complained. I can not call them and their Chat is worthless; you get a R2D2 robot that wants to lead you through flaming hoops before finally connecting you to a human. I never went that far.
With that very slow internet I have been starting another WordPress project. Steve, my Indiana blog friend then a part time neighbor in Sierra Vista and now back in Indiana bought a scanner for his 110 slides. When he blogged about scanning them I emailed him and asked if he could do some for me. I got the digitized image files back last week via the Internet. The photos look very good but there is a small problem – every photo shows a Title of “Scanner” and each one has “Scanner” as a Caption. Therefor, the project is to download them into WordPress Media, edit the title and caption, upload the edited photos into MetaSlider and then have MetaSlider display the reordered photos on a Page. I have managed to learn how to do all of that; now all I have to do is get about 240 photos reordered in two slider displays and I’ll be done. HA
