To bring justice, Master Hugh must foil the corrupt power of great men
Many medieval scholars discontinued their university studies before completing their degree. Some lacked funds; others became bored with a scholar’s life. Occasionally these young men formed lawless bands, robbing and raping and creating chaos. They were called goliards.
In Deeds of Darkness Master Hugh learns that the Bampton coroner, an old friend, has been slain while traveling to Oxford. As he seeks the killer (or killers) he discovers a band of goliards in the area between Oxford and Bampton. But how to apprehend these youths? They have protectors far above Hugh’s station. He must deal with the claims of justice on the one hand and the power of great men to protect their henchmen on the other. — Book promo @ goodreads.com

Nothing much happening here other than it is getting hot. The high yesterday was 96°F although the forecast expected low 90s. That is what is in the 10 day forecast also but I’m expecting some 100+ highs within the next 10 days. At least this year I have a working A/C, so far, rather than suffering through a week of 100+ last June with only a fan.
I had my new/used HP EliteBook 840 G7 delivered by FedEx yesterday sometime after 7:30 when I last checked. Picked it up from the Park Office porch this morning when I got up and have started the setup. It took me about 10 minutes to just get it powered up so this is going to be a long process. The initial boot brought up a welcome screen and the a screen that has a lot of Launch buttons on it. I clicked only one and then clicked a box that said not to show the screen again but could not find a way to get out of it and continue the boot. Power off and went for my morning walk; when I got back, power the laptop up again it booted up with Linux Mint. I then spent about a half hour getting the Brave browser installed. I’ll probably be continuing the set up for the rest of this week but I have an Internet connection and Brave is installed so I have the device connected to the world. HA
