Missive #585

From celebrated author Agustina Bazterricathis collection of nineteen brutal, darkly funny short stories takes into our deepest fears and through our most disturbing fantasies. Through stories about violence, alienation, and dystopia, Bazterrica’s vision of the human experience emerges in complex, unexpected ways—often unsettling, sometimes thrilling, and always profound. In “Roberto,” a girl claims to have a rabbit between her legs. These stories are not a dark as the the two novels by her that I have read. But they are strange or maybe weird is a more apt description. They are all very short short stories with the ebook being only 115 pages. An entertaining read which may not be liked by everyone but you might give it a try. A woman’s neighbor jumps to his death in “A Light, Swift, and Monstrous Sound,” and in “Candy Pink,” a woman fails to contend with a difficult breakup in five easy steps.
Written in Bazterrica’s signature clever, vivid style, these stories question love, friendship, family relationships, and unspeakable desires. — Book promo @ goodreads.com

Went to Bisbee Breakfast Club for breakfast yesterday morning and then to Safeway. Just another usual shopping day. Although I did add a stop at the laundry and got that done.

I have been fighting a lot of Spam that is using Omaha Steak, Tractor Supply, AAA, State Farm , Costco & Ace Hardware as the come on in their phising tries. This has been going on for over a month with 5-10 of the emails every day. Some of the titles are the same but the email addresses are all different so my attempt to filter them out has been a bust. I’m now trying Box Trapper. BoxTrapper protects your inbox from spam by requiring ALL email senders not on your Whitelist reply to a verification email before you can receive their mail. This might slow down my replies until I get your email address Whitelisted. Or it may also be a bust – we will see.

I had is enabled for a short time yesterday and could see that it was ‘trapping’ some of the usual suspects but did not seem to be working for emails that I wanted to receive. I had one sender whitelisted but was not receiving any email from that sender. Then later in the day I had an email that was trapped which had come from the pemmican vendor. I was able to see it in the queue and by clicking on “Whitelist and Deliver” I added it as a whitelisted address and the message was delivered to my inbox. IT WORKS! I manually added another address to the Whitelist and asked the sender to email me and it worked just fine. I found later that I did not need to manually add to the whitelist, if I send someone an email that address gets whitelisted automatically. IT WORKS!
I hope the phishers don’t find a way around it. Nothing trapped so far today but no Spam in my inbox either.

Spam is one reason users have fled to text messages. But what stops text messages from being overrun with spam?

Perhaps email is allowed to degenerate so that you will be forced to buy the “Premium” plan (for $9.99 per month) in order to block it.

Then they could let the Premium plan degenerate so that you have to buy the Platinum Premium plan for $19.99 per month. Ad infinitum.

    1. I’m pleased with how BoxTrapper has been working so far. No added cost with only some added review effort on my part to sort out messages that I do want to see. I think email has degenerated to sell more SmartPhones. You are not a real person in the USA unless you have a motor vehicle and a SmartPhone.
