53. No Room in the Bed
Nasruddin and his wife had a very small bed. One night, Nasruddin’s wife couldn’t take it anymore. “You’re not giving me any space at all!” she shouted. “Get up and go! Just go!”
“Go where?” Nasruddin asked, barely awake.
“I don’t care! I just need some space in the bed so I can sleep.”
Nasruddin started walking.
Eventually, he ran into the nightwatchman who was patrolling the town.
“What are you doing out in the middle of the night?” he asked.
“I’m giving my wife some space,” Nasruddin explained. “Could you please go ask her if this is far enough?”

I have been linking to Geopolitical Economy Hour transcripts hosted by Radhika Desai with Michael Hudson and other guests. Those podcasts have apparently stopped and a new host, Nima R. Alkhorshid @ Dialogue Works a YouTube channel, has now come on the scene. All those Economy Hour links were from past years with the last one coming in August of this year. The quote below is from the most recent podcast featuring Nima, Michael and Richard Wolff (an American Marxian economist and professor emeritus of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst).
NIMA: So nice to have you back, Michael, on this podcast. We’re waiting for Richard to join us. Let’s get started with the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. What’s your understanding of the outcome of the foreign policy of the United States when it comes to the economic war between the United States and China?
MICHAEL HUDSON: Well, I don’t think there was any outcome at all. The questioners were obviously supporters of the Democratic Party, and they wanted to make it all about personality, mostly Trump’s personality. They kept trying to goad him about things like how many people attended his rallies. When Trump would try to raise an economic issue, like asking if people are better off today than they were four years ago under his administration, Kamala would just say, “Well, I’m a member of the middle class, I’m all for the middle class,” and then go into a stump speech. But that’s not about policy. — U.S. Foreign Policy and Economic Shifts: Trump vs. Harris Debate Analysis by Michael Hudson
Another trip to Reserve this morning. Planned on having breakfast at Smokey’s, the new restaurant that claims to be open every day, they were closed. There was a restaurant there last year that I went to once and then when I went back it was also closed. I don’t know if this was just a one time closing or they are also out of business already.
Nothing else happening. We are starting to get some winter weather with the low temperatures now in the 40s with few in the 30s. This morning the low was 38°F which was the lowest so far. I have started wearing my flannel shirts in the morning and thing I’ll be adding a coat and gloves before I leave here.
