Missive #295

The final installment in Bernard Cornwell’s bestselling Saxon Tales [Last Kingdom] series, chronicling the epic story of the making of England—the basis for The Last Kingdom, the hit Netflix series.

THE FINAL BATTLE AWAITS…

This may have been promoted as the final installment to the Saxon Tales but there was another book published. I’ll get around to reading it soon but it is promoted as “completes his epic Last Kingdom series with this companion book featuring three exclusive short stories and sixty recipes that bring Uhtred’s world to life as never before.”The epic conclusion to the globally bestselling historical series.

England is under attack. Chaos reigns. Northumbria, the last kingdom, is threatened by armies from all sides, by land and sea – and only one man stands in their way. Torn between loyalty and sworn oaths, the warrior king Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg faces his greatest ever battle – and prepares for his ultimate fate…

“Perhaps the greatest writer of historical adventure novels today” (Washington Post), Bernard Cornwell has dazzled and entertained readers and critics with his prolific string of page-turning bestsellers. Of all his protagonists, however, none is as beloved as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, and this thrilling historical novel continues the saga of his adventures and the turbulent early years of England. — Book promo @ Amazon

I went to work on that slide show again and this time I think it is working right. To see it go to the Menu Hamburger and click, then click on the Drop Down arrow for #Other Trips and select The Superstitions. I’ll now soon get started to work on the last trip that will be in this Drop Down.

I also devoted a lot of yesterday afternoon to disabling preinstalled apps on the Fire 8. I still have six that are in a folder that keeps them out of sight which are protected from being disabled. I’ll considered this project completed now since to go any further with it on the Fire 8 would be a waste of time. I will however continue to experiment with ADB and see what I can learn. The end goal of all this is to get a Nexus 7 (2013) that I can customize as an Android tablet with only the apps on it which I want on it, running an Android OS of my choice. Not what Amazon or Samsung forces upon the buyer i.e. ME.

Actually during the whole Election Cycle, we’ve asked—and never received much of an answer—exactly why the Republicans would be any improvement over the Democrats (assuming of course that voting actually matters). We all know that the Democrats are no good; but we’ve yet to see any hard evidence that the Republicans are any better. So far, they’ve really done very little except to say that they will enforce Democrat policies more efficiently; execute the Democrats’ wars and immigration policies more ruthlessly; exchange reactionary Political Correctness for the more radical versions; and expand the power of Corporations in imposing the New World Order more decisively. Those things, and they also vow to engage in further Lawfare. — Woke Republicans Legalizing Child-Trafficking by Night Wind

More fun with the English language.

“My wife called to tell me she saw a fox on the way to work.

I asked her how she knew it was on it’s way to work.

She hung up on me.”

  1. It amazes me how you are able to take different devices and delete default apps, add what you want and end up with a device that is built just for you and not what is shoved down the buyer’s throats from the major manufacturers. Good Job !!!!

    1. I’m not there yet Steve. Just getting started using the old Fire 8 as a test dummy. Having said that, I’m encouraged by what I have managed to do so far.
