Missive #524

Emmy-award winning gadfly Mike Rowe presents a ridiculously entertaining, seriously fascinating collection of his favorite episodes from America’s #1 short-form podcast, The Way I Heard It, along with a host of memories, ruminations, illustrations, and insights. It’s a delightful collection of mysteries. A mosaic. A memoir. A charming, surprising must-read.

Mike Rowe’s The Way I Heard It collects thirty-five fascinating stories “for the curious mind with a short attention span.” Five-minute mysteries about people you know, filled with facts that you didn’t. Movie stars, presidents, Nazis, and bloody do-gooders—they’re all here, waiting to shake your hand, hoping you’ll remember them. Delivered with Mike’s signature blend of charm, wit, and ingenuity, their stories are part of a larger mosaic—a memoir crammed with recollections, insights, and intimate, behind-the-scenes moments drawn from Mike’s own remarkable life and career. — Book promo @ goodreads.

We got a real rain on Tuesday, 0.63″ in about an hour, I also got a real roof leak that left a pool on my bed. There is more rain in the forecast for today.

I have been trying different gains for my breakfast during the past few months. The oat groats and buckwheat has been good. The latest is oat groats and kamut. The kamut berries are twice as large as wheat kernels, have a chewy texture when cooked in my Thermal Cooker and eaten for breakfast. I also have some spelt that is similar to kamut that I have not tried yet but it is probably just a good.
When it comes to health benefits, kamut wins hands down over modern wheat. It contains 30 percent more protein and substantially more zinc, manganese, phosphorus and Vitamin E. Several small medical studies conducted in the past 15 years suggest that kamut can lower bad cholesterol and balance blood sugar levels for the diabetic. Another health plus is kamut’s unmodified status, growing hardily without pesticides. Because it contains less gluten than modern wheat, people sensitive to wheat may be able to handle kamut without digestive distress.

I sent an email to a RV service shop in Elephant Butte, NM on Monday and it was answered on Tuesday although I did not open it until Wednesday after getting back from my shopping trip. They are willing to correspond using email which is a big step in the right direction plus they say they are willing to help plus they say they do a lot of A/C installations. We will see how this works out, it is ONLY 190 miles one way to get to them. HA
