Missive #358

Miss Blandish – innocent, exquisite, vulnerable heiress – is kidnapped by a gang of ruthless hoods who’ve never tried big-time crime. Foiled by their own vicious ineptitude and the greed of a superior mob, the kidnappers lose their million dollar prize. Blandish, terrified and broken, is now the captive of Ma’ Grisson and her sadistic, sexually deviant son Slim.

This was the authors first published book. It is a very quick read which I enjoyed. He was one of the best known thriller writers of all time. The canon of Chase, comprising 90 titles, earned him a reputation as the king of thriller writers in Europe. He was also one of the internationally best-selling authors, and to date 50 of his books have been made into films. When Dave Fenner was hired to solve the Blandish kidnapping, he knew the odds of finding the girl were against him – the cops were still looking for her three months after the ransom had been paid. And the kidnappers, Riley and his gang, had disappeared in to thin air. But what none of them knew was that Riley himself had been wiped out by a rival gang – and the heiress was now in the hands of Ma Grisson and her son Slim, a vicious killer who couldn’t stay away from women…especially his beautiful new captive. By the time Fenner began to close in on them, some terrible things had happened to Miss Blandish…

After taking most of day off because of not feeling quite up to par and then a short walk on the travel day I did our usual distance yesterday morning. No mid day walk however, the legs and back are paining me somewhat and the route here although almost flat is a rather rough trail. Did the same route this morning but went clockwise this time. Maybe do a shorter mid day walk if it is not too hot. It is warming up fast in the morning.

My theory that I could use sleeping heart rate as a sign that a psoriasis flare was imminent has been disproved. My sleeping heart rate has been in a range of 38-43 for many months now and I had set a limit of 45 before I would start the ibuprofen treatment. This morning I woke up with a flare on my right buttock and thigh with my sleeping heart rate still at a very nice 42. So far the flare has not brought with it the heavy sweats, slight fever or slight headache although the stomach upset of a few days ago and some lethargy may have been signs. Started the ibuprofen treatment this morning!
