Missive #133

2. Nasruddin Shares The Donkey’s Load

Nasruddin had gone into the forest to chop wood.

At day’s end, he bundled up the wood but, instead of putting the bundle on the donkey, he put the bundle on his own head. He then clambered up on the donkey and rode into town.

“Nasruddin!” shouted one of his friends. “Why are you carrying that bundle of wood there on your head? Doesn’t it hurt?”

“It does hurt,” Nasruddin admitted, “but I wanted to help share the load.”

“I still don’t understand,” said Nasruddin’s friend, looking puzzled.

“The donkey is carrying me,” explained Nasruddin, “but I’m carrying the wood.”

America has been in a veritable cultural revolution since the 1960s. Nearly all our major institutions finally became woke—the administrative state, traditional and social media, universities, K-12, the corporate boardroom, entertainment, professional sports, and the foundations.
So the Obama and the Biden administrations finally seemed to have achieved their aims, in what the Obamas once boasted would be the “fundamental transformation” of America into something unrecognizable by its Founders. But what they gave us was nihilism—the destruction of norms, laws, and customs. There is no border, no criminal justice system, no real president any more.
The citizen is a serf, the illegal alien the veritable citizen. The former needs a passport to reenter the country, the latter is waved on through. There is a slob in gym shorts and a hoodie establishing dress codes for the Senate, teen murderers bragging that they won’t spend a day in jail, and a would-be state legislator filming herself doing sexual gymnastics while begging for cash only to be upset over the invasion of her “privacy.” So the Left got what it wanted and gave us our new America.
The curious result, however, is that even the elite Left is now forced to live among, and cannot always escape, the ruination it created—and for the first time is becoming slightly unhappy with what it birthed.…That it is now mowing down its originators may not matter much, even if for the short term the current boomeranging should be teaching leftists that their ideology is unworkable and ultimately destructive of civilization. History, after all, is replete with misguided zealots who even to the very first shot of their own firing squads still believed in the catastrophic cultural and political upheavals they had unleashed on others.
Partly woke continues, then, because its privileged creators still cling to the belief, “What I create for others, certainly will not apply to me and mine.” — Is the Left Happy That They Got Their Wish? by Victor Davis Hanson

I went into Reserve for the last time this trip for another breakfast at Ella’s and picked up some grocery items at Jake’s. Also went to the Post Office and told them that I was vacating the box at the RV Park and any mail that came in for me was to be Return To Sender or thrown away. Also almost filled Desperado’s tank with some expensive gas but not as expensive as the only other place in town.

I’ll be doing the month end house chores later today and tomorrow. Then will be on the road on Sunday. Will try a schedule the posting for Sunday to happen while I’m on my way; I got that to work once will see if I remember how to do it.

Saw a bull elk this morning with his harem of 6-8. This may have been the same bull I saw about 10 days ago but a more mature bull than the one I saw back in July-August. Seeing any elk at all in September has been infrequent compared to the earlier months. All the hunters have got them spooked.

  1. You’re fortunate to have seen as many elk as you have,I haven’t seen any except in photographs. Wishing you safe travels tomorrow ,

    1. VERY fortunate to see two, maybe three, bull elk. The cows and caves are a dime a dozen until hunting season gets them spooked. At my new camp now.

    1. Got here around noon. Had a hell of a time backing into my space with a neighbors car intruding, maybe get that sorted out tomorrow. Wind for the last 100 miles; 20 mph with gust of 30 either as a headwind or on the port side.

      1. I forget about those winds sometimes. As you know they only get stronger in the winter. Hope this finds that you got your neighbor’s car situation solved.

        1. There are winds during all the seasons but Spring is the time for awning killing. The neighbor’s car issue was solved by getting a different space.
