Where have all the grownups gone? In answering that question with the same freewheeling erudition and intuitive brilliance that made Iron John a national bestseller, poet, storyteller and translator Robert Bly tells us that we live in a “sibling society, ” in which adults have regressed into adolescence and adolescents refuse to grow up. — Book promo @ goodreads.com
This is an interesting book but has it’s downside. The author is more of a poet that a novelist and uses a lot of poems, or parts of poems, to make his points. That may be fine for those people that understand poetry but I’m not among them. He also uses fairy tales and other mythological tales as a base for the book. These stories I liked and they did help make his points. Recommended but with the qualifier.
A Curious Tale Once upon a time there was a country, far north and far south of here, where farmers found a new domestic creature,
superior to sheep, pigs, or chickens. It happened just after money had been reclassified as an animal. One day it was a thought; the next day it was real, and had horns and an udder.
The breeders soon found that the new animal needed much air and water; and some of the poor had to be moved to the inner cities and others to the suburbs, to make room. Although it was regrettable that people had to lose their old homes and their security, nothing could be more important, the Senate and the House said, for the future of the nation than this new money cow. What they needed was one great money bull for the development of the line.
A perfect money bull was finally discovered; his name was Bottom.
For a while, everyone was satisfied with Bottom, and many gifts were brought to him. Boys wore their caps backward as an honor to Bottom. He finally learned to speak, and his words and his sperm were sent all over the known world.
When Bottom began to demand sacrifices, some people became uneasy. But Congress agreed to his demands. Hundreds of people lined up to be sacrificed to him. This line of people about to die was called Bottom’s line.

On the road to my summer camp today. It is a route that I dove last year when I got my A/C replaced but I added a stop at Sofia’s restaurant in Socorro this time. Also stopped at the WalMart there and picked up a few things. The total distance was 190 miles the route: Cedar Cove Rd, NM195, I-25 (64 mi), California St, Bullock St, Spring St/US60 & NM12. High temperatures here are forecast to be in the mid to upper 80s with a couple days in the lower 80s with a chance of thunderstorms.
I need to get back on my regular walking routine after a very interrupted week. The morning walks here will be cooler than what I had this past month and the mid day walks might be added back if it does not get hot too soon in the day.
