Missive #589

The drive to the Elephant Butte camp was 266 miles with a couple of slight detours. I stopped in Lordsburg and filled Desperado with gas and was very disappointed with the miles per gallon that I saw. Maybe the next fill up will be better? I certainly hope so. Then a couple miles down the road I stopped at Ramona’s for breakfast which will be my breakfast stop if I’m going to have breakfast in Lordsburg. As I was going out of Deming I drove through a RV Park that I was considering. Based on the drive through it is no longer on my list as a possible stay.

The check in at the new camp went well. However, I had a problem getting electric service fro the pedestal. The new neighbor got it to work without the Surge protector but when I unplugged and plugged in again I got no electricity. Went to the office and the Host came back with me and got it to work. I shut off the circuit breaker, turned it back on, unplugged and re-plugged and after each change it worked. I think there is something that is intermittent and I’ll probably be faced with it again.

The route for today was: Double Adobe Rd, US191, Glenn Rd, Leslie Canyon Rd, Washington Ave, AZ80, NM80, I-10 (77 miles), Gold Ave, NM26, I-25 (42 miles) & NM195.

Tomorrow I will go to ‘town’ and do my regular routine of breakfast and then shopping. Will be doing it at different restaurants and at a different grocery store but the same routine. There are not a lot of choices of restaurants that open at 7:00 here or a lot of market choices either. Then I’ll be at O’Neill RV Services for what I expect to be the rest of the day to get Desperado’s water leak fixed.

I have updated the two maps for my Virtual Walk. They can be found in the sidebar Text Widget just below the camp location map.

On 3 October I included this in my posting.

The Park host that was here when I left on 1 May left for good in the afternoon when I arrived. The owner is now running the Campground and he is not much of a host. He was here last winter doing hosting duties while the regular host was on a 2-3 week vacation and wasn’t much of of host then either. I’m not so sure I’ll stay here through the entire winter season this time.

It turned out that I will not be staying for the winter season at the Desert Oasis Campground. The day before I left the owner and I had a disagreement but there was one thing that we did agree on – I was not going to be staying there in December.
