Missive #532

The Winning of the West was originally published in six volumes, with the first four volumes published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons from 1889 to 1896. The work has been reprinted in various formats, including a six-volume set published by Current Literature Pub. Co. in 1905. These two volumes are from the Current Literature Pub. Co., there are other reprints that combine these two books as Volume I. I will try to read the other four volumes by Current Literature if I can find them.

The history as Roosevelt wrote it is a combination of academia and the novelist. A lot of footnotes but written in non-academic language. However, the author repeats himself quite a lot which seems to be Roosevelt’s style.

On my Friday morning walk I saw a bull elk for the first time this season. He might have been the same one that I have seen the last two years but he now has a bigger set of antlers than what he carried the first time I saw him. He is with the same heard that I have seen all three summers that I have been here.

I went back to the Adobe Bakery and Cafe on Sunday for breakfast and then had about a 30 minute wait for Jake’s to open at 9:00 am. Opens at 8:00 every day except Sunday. That was the extent of my shopping trip.

The high temperatures dropped down below 100 on Saturday then approached that high mark again on Sunday but did not reach it. The 10 day forecast is for the high temperatures to be in the 80s with thunderstorms in 9 of the 10 days. Lower temperatures with higher humidity and the possibility of a leak on my bed. The A/C has been ordered but I don’t think I’ll get it installed within the next 10 days.

I have added another Widget to the sidebar which has a link to a map of my Virtual Walks. The Widget explains it so I will not repeat what I have said there.
