89. Young Nasruddin and the Tall Tales

When he was a young boy, Nasruddin liked to sit around the fires of the passing caravans and listen to travelers’ tales about faraway places. He enjoyed the stories of valiant warriors in battle, tales of genies and magic, and most of all he enjoyed the anecdotes about the very strange habits of people who lived in distant lands.

“I once visited a land that was so hot all year long,” one traveler claimed, “that no one in their country wore any clothes.”

“Impossible!” protested Nasruddin. “Without clothes, how would you be able to tell the men from the women?”

I was at RV City all day on Wednesday and then stayed there overnight. My appointment was for 10:00 and nothing had been done by 13:00. I complained and the window channels were installed by 15:30 but there was no evidence that anything had been done about re-hanging the basement door. The ‘tech” and his supervisor had a lot of ideas about how to fix the problem but they all involved replacement parts (a new door) or pulling the upper hinge part off and doing (?).

I did not sleep well Wednesday night while thinking about what to do. RV City repairs are mostly install a replacement part, beyond that they can’t do much. I’m not sure but this might have been the last time I asked them to do repair work. Maybe buy propane from them but repairs maybe not.

Thursday morning I told the supervisor that all I wanted them to do is get the door re-hung. I didn’t care if the door would fully open or not as long as it would not fall off. When I get to my new camp I’ll have a garage there take a look and see if they can do anything. If they can’t then maybe I can hold it together until I’m back near Sierra Vista and I can get a body shop to take a look.

A different “tech” came out and hung the door as I asked him to do it and with my very limited help we had it hung. It opens all the way to the latch at the top and then closes down completely with only a slight bit of binding. That is taken care of easily by lightly pulling out on the door as you raise it up or down. So for now, the door is fixed. Very expensively and it took much too long with the first “tech” and the supervisor wasting a lot of time dreaming up even more expensive fixes.

I stopped at Safeway in Benson on my way back to the Park and got enough groceries to last me for a week or 10 days. I’ll then go to to small town grocery, to the garage and probably stop at the Post Office and tell them I’m back so will probably receive some General Deliver packages for me during the summer.

Got started to doing the month end household chores. Will finish them tomorrow and will be on the road to my summer camp on Sunday. It has been in the 90°s here for the past week. Not a lot cooler at the next camp but the 10 day forecast is showing cooler days and some rain predicted.
