80. A Token of Friendship
Nasruddin had a friend he’d known for a long time.
“You’re quite the trickster,” Nasruddin’s friend said, “but I’ve seen all your tricks. You can fool everybody else, but you can’t fool me.”
Nasruddin scratched his head thoughtfully and then he said, “Wait here! I think I know a way to fool you. I’ll be right back!”
“Okay,” the man agreed. “You can try if you want, but I’m going to be on my guard!”
The man stood there and waited.
And waited.
And as he was waiting, he realized … Nasruddin wasn’t coming back.
Nasruddin had fooled him after all.

My first email to System 76 was sent 21 March. I received a reply on 24 March which said they could restore the laptop to Ububtu, gave me a price and said they would send me a shipping label. I responded that same day asking them to Fax the label to my UPS Store. Received an email yesterday, 27 March, that said they could not do that. They wanted to send me a PDF attachment which I was to then send to my UPS Store. I sent them a reply that I was running out of time and we should forget it for now. If I still have the laptop and it still would not boot in October I would contact them again.
I then decided to do what I should have done when I first had the problem but didn’t know how. I didn’t know how yesterday either but had read enough that I thought knew what the problem was and what I could do to fix it. I was reasonably sure the problem was with the Zorin OS, therefore replace it or reinstall it would be the fix. To do that I needed a Bootable USB drive with the OS on it.
I knew how to ‘burn’ such a drive from a computer but had to do some research on how to do it from an Android tablet. I was able to get a Mint Mate iso file downloaded to my Tab A9+ much the same as with a computer. But the iso to USB required an app. I got one and failed to transfer the file 3-4 times, got another app and failed again. Got a third app and finally was able to create a Bootable USB drive with Mint Mate OS on it.
Installing it on the System 76 laptop was then a relative piece of cake. I did the same install as what was done to put Zotin on it. It is now installed as a dual boot with Zorin but is the default and has booted up just fine 4-5 times. I might garner enough courage to see if Zorin will boot but not yet!
