Missive #404

Western American History. The Big Divide is the bold pattern greatest mountains and the men who, in conquering them, were forced to conquer themselves. — Book promo @ goodreads

Not much of a book promo and very few customer reviews. I thought it was a decent history of the Rocky Mountain  area and deserved more. This is the second book by this author that I have read and since I enjoy history I’ll be reading more of his.

The Starlink Mini install on Desperado’s roof went well. Took a little longer and cost a little more than I wanted it to but I’m pleased. Not so happy with the work that RV City did. They did NOT leave the TV Cable protruding through the roof as I had asked. That is where I wanted the Mini cable to go. The Mini installer could see where that cable had been so he just unsealed that opening and ran the cable like I wanted. He also said that the roof seal where the antenna had been removed was not done well, at least up to his standards, so he also added to that sealing.

The Starlink app still shows that there are obstructions to a full sky view by the Mini receiver. I’m not sure what they can possibly be other than perhaps the A/C unit is providing a partial block in the southwest and south. The app also claims that the receiver tilt is wrong but I wanted it slightly down tilted so when driving there is not air pressure driving to lift the receiver off the roof.

In spite of those issues the connection is good. When doing speed tests you can get some very different reading within minutes of each test or what you are using for the test. I’m going to show two different measures that I took yesterday.

First I used the same site as I have used before https://www.highspeedinternet.com/tools/speed-test/starlink:

@7:35 Download 168.36Mbps, Upload 7.47Mbps, Latency 32ms
@10.57 Download 153.01Mbps, Upload 5.83Mbps, Latency 33ms
@16:48 Download 120.89Mbps, Upload 8.43Mbps, Latency 39ms

Then I also did a speed test using the Starlink app.

@7:43 Download 103.00Mbps, Upload 19.10Mbps, Latency 84ms
@10.59 Download 101.00Mbps, Upload 9.50Mbps, Latency 37ms
@16:53 Download 71.00Mbps, Upload 6.90Mbps, Latency 61ms

It seems that the most important NEWS in the United States these past days has been the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Am I the only person that sees an extreme difference in how this assassination has been investigated and reported versus the two attempted assassinations of president to be Trump? Why is Brian Thompson so important that all the other daily killings in the United States are virtually ignored?

  1. It’s good that the Mini installation was done right.
    My thoughts on
    Brian Thompson getting so much media attention is that those in charge of media
    are distracting the public from more significant news they want to go
    unnoticed,’nuff said
    I hope you and Erik are well and happy,-Mary

    1. I think you have it right about Thompson. The media is also confronted with the US hypocrisy by supporting terrorist is Syria while claiming to be at war on terrorist. Syria will become another failed state like Libya only worse.
      Yes, I’m very pleased with how the Starlink has worked out; getting a great connection compared to Verizon where I was getting poor service or NO service. Yes, Erik and I are doing well – thanks!
