Sharpe’s first story as an officer takes him to the daunting fort of Gawilghur. This is also the last of his Indian adventures. Sir Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington) was never at his shining bestThese first thee Sharps books could be considered to be a Sharpe or Sir Arthur India trilogy. Sharpe is the fictional character and Sir Arthur the historic. when he had to lay siege to great fortresses, and few are greater than Gawilghur up on its vast cliff over the Deccan Plain. In the end the fortress fell to the extraordinary gallantry of some Scottish soldiers and I fear Sharpe muscles in on their achievement.

The mornings have warmed up considerably. The low yesterday morning was 48°F and 44 this morning although it had been forecast to be 38. The next 10 days are forecast to have highs in the lower 70s with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s. I hope the weather guessers get it right.
