The prequel to the series, describing Sharpe’s experiences in India. Sharpe’s Tiger describes the adventures of the raw young private soldier Richard Sharpe in India, before the Peninsular War.
Sharpe and the rest of his battalion, along with the rising star of the general staff Arthur Wellesley, are about to embark upon the siege of Seringapatam, island citadel of the Tippoo of Mysore. The British must remove this potentate from his tiger throne, but he has gone to extraordinary lengths to defend his city from attack. And always he is surrounded by tigers, both living and ornamental…any prisoner of the Tippoo can expect a savage end.
When a senior British officer is captured by the Tippoo’s forces Sharpe is offered a chance to attempt a rescue, a chance he snatched in order to escape from the tyrannical Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill. But in fleeing Hakeswill he enters the confusing, exotic and dangerous world of the Tippoo and Sharpe will need all his wits just to stay alive, let alone save the British army from catastrophe.
With the same meticulous research and attention to detail that distinguishes the rest of the bestselling series of Sharpe novels, Bernard Cornwell has recreated the 1799 campaign against Seringapatam which made the British masters of southern India, a campaign that pitted brutalized soldiers against an ancient and splendid civilization. Set against a background of dazzling wealth, ruinous poverty, gorgeous palaces, sudden cruelty and pitiless battles, Sharpe. — Book promo @ goodreads.com
My trip to Sierra Vista yesterday was mostly successful. The order at Sierra Vista Food Co-op was waiting for me as promised. While there I looked around to see what they might have that I wanted and there was not much except their grain offerings. I need to talk to the Grocery Manager about getting me bulk orders of hulled barley, oat groats and buckwheat and see how the prices compare to what I have been paying.
The stop at my UPS store was just a time to clean out all the junk mail they have been holding for me. There were 3-4 pieces that were wanted mail but mostly junk. At the VA I was able to get an eye exam appointment on the same day as my next lab blood draw day plus a ‘sort of promise’ that they would help me get verified so I can continue to use Secure Messaging. This is when/if Yubico ever gets the key that I bought from them to work again of give me a new one. Then went next door to the VA Audio department and failed completely getting any help with the hearing aids that are not working. The tech was not there and the clerk at the desk would not accept the hearing aids.
Went from there to Wal*Mart where it took longer than I wanted it to take but got new reading lens ordered to fit an old frame that I had that has saddle nose pieces which work much better with me. Maybe will get them next week although I have to drive back to Sierra Vista to have the lens put in the frame. They would not keep the frame do the install and mail the glasses to me.
No time remaining to spend with AT&T and too many people waiting for me to add my name on the list for a hair cut.
Arrived for my dental appointment about 15-20 minutes early and then when not called at 20 minutes after my appointment time I complained. Finally got in about 30 minutes after scheduled time; I was very concerned about Erik being in a hot Desperado. This appointment was for more impressions which will be used to build me a ‘partial’ with the four lower front teeth; about the same as the temporary that I have had for the last 6 months but promises to be a firmer fit. We will see.
My concern for Erik was based on what our high temperatures have been since I got here. The range has been 90-96°F for the week. The forecast is for another week like that then maybe cooling into the 80s. I have not been doing a mid day walk because of the psoriasis flare and the heat but when it cools down some I’ll get back to the two walks per day routine.
I have never read any of the prequel to Sharpe’s battles in Portugal and Spain. It will be interesting whether you like them.
