Missive #324

“After more than a decade of stability or improvement, the mental health of adolescents plunged in the early 2010s. Rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide rose sharply, more than doubling on many measures. Why?

In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.A very interesting book. It is no coincidence that social media sites use the same techniques to hook their users as the slot machines builders use to hook their players. The book explains a lot about why generation Z is how and why they are the way they are and what can be expected from future generations to come. The good news is that this is a worldwide issue since the Internet is worldwide so the United States is only at a disadvantage to those countries that suppress smartphone usage by their children. The bad news is there are countries that do that. He presents more than a dozen mechanisms by which this “great rewiring of childhood” has interfered with children’s social and neurological development, covering everything from sleep deprivation to attention fragmentation, addiction, loneliness, social contagion, social comparison, and perfectionism. He explains why social media damages girls more than boys and why boys have been withdrawing from the real world into the virtual world, with disastrous consequences for themselves, their families, and their societies.

Most important, Haidt issues a clear call to action. He diagnoses the “collective action problems” that trap us, and then proposes four simple rules that might set us free. He describes steps that parents, teachers, schools, tech companies, and governments can take to end the epidemic of mental illness and restore a more humane childhood.

Haidt has spent his career speaking truth backed by data in the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the public health emergency faced by Gen Z. We cannot afford to ignore his findings about protecting our children—and ourselves—from the psychological damage of a phone-based life.” — Book promo @ goodreads.com

The treatment the Crooks are receiving compared to other parents in mass shooting cases is extremely curious. Parents of other shooters have been criminally prosecuted for their failure to provide mental health “treatment” for their children, being sentenced to years in federal prison.

In other instances, the mental health “treatment” provided to the shooter was inadequate and the focus turned to the number of guns found at a residence.

For example, Nancy Lanza was described as non-compliant when she reported adverse side effects of the psychiatric drugs Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, was prescribed by Yale Child Study Center.

But investigators had no problem describing in great detail every gun and type and quantity of ammunition found in the family home.

Despite knowing that the father and son had numerous weapons in the home, the FBI has yet to provide the details of exactly what weapons, type and quantity of ammunition and any other interesting bomb making supplies.

Why? Why are the Crooks seemingly protected from what usually is standard procedure in mass shooting cases? — ABLECHILD: FBI Giving Special Treatment to Crooks’ Mental Health “Expert” Parents

You will not find this article published by the Main Stream Media. It asks a lot of questions that I have also had, such as if both parents are mental health professionals then why did they not detect anything wrong with their son? Perhaps they did, then the question might be what did they do after they made the detection? This entire ‘investigation’ has a very rotten smell.

You all watched the video of the shooting at Donald Trump.

Shots were fired, and how many people took cover (except Mr. Trump)? How many people at least lad down to make themselves smaller targets? Very few.

There is active shooting. Nobody exactly knows what is happening, how many shooters there are, what kind of weapons are being used, and what more gonna be used. The majority of people are standing up, looking at what is happening, and recording scenes with cell phones.

Bit weird right?

It looks like the majority of people in SHTF will die simply because they will try to record SHTF on their phones.

It is not only about the system. It is about ordinary people too. We become idiots mostly, with zero survival instincts, and the better and more modern life we have, the longer and more painful the fall we will have when SHTF. Now, combine those people with times when the big plug gonna be taken out… What do you think will happen then? — Here’s How The Majority Will Die In SHTF Trying to Record It On Their Phones by Selco
